What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is the situation in which a person feels unease or distress due to any reason. Many factors contribute to anxiety, and there are many ways to get help to get rid of this feeling. Anxiety comes from within; when you feel stressed about something, you overthink, which in turn causes anxiety.

Anxiety is probably part of growing up, and when we grow old, we face more responsibilities which can cause anxiety. We all go through bumps on the road, and the stress accumulates and escalates, which causes anxiety. Anxiety is a very unclear situation as it leads us to a very wrong decision.

So, we should remember Allah in this time to ask his forgiveness and get rid of anxiety. Islam has taught us some supplications to get us through tough times.

In Quran, Allah says,

“On them, there shall be no fear, and nor shall they grieve” (2:62).

Dua for Anxiety in the Light of Sunnah

Holy Prophet (S.A.W) also emphasizes the importance of saying prayers. He faced countless hardships in His life when he started preaching Islam. But He never loses hope and gets stressed. He taught us through his life to always believe in God and say supplication so that Allah turns your hardship into ease.

The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) said, “There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its remedy” (Bukhari).

Islam teaches us that Allah gives us Sifah, and he is the source of all cure. When we are anxious, we automatically turn to Allah. Troubles and anxiety are the main reason that drives us back to Him. Through His Messenger Muhammad (S.A.W) and Holy Quran, Allah taught us to tell Dua when we feel happy, sad, depressed, etc.

On another occasion, Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) said,” Whoever was afflicted with grief and anxiety and said see the following Dua, Allah, the Exalted and Ever-Majestic, will remove his grief and will change his sorrow into happiness. It was said, “O Messenger of Allah! Do we have to learn these words?” He said, “Yes, whoever hears them should learn them.”

Abu Huraira reported that Muhammad (S.A.W) said,” A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer. It is good in everyone, but you have to cherish what benefits in the Hereafter and seek help from Allah. Do not lose heart, and if anything in the form of trouble comes to you, don’t say. If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do. Your” if” opens the gate for the Satan” (Sahih Al-Muslim 2664).
