Islam has already made beard mandatory for Muslims. Let’s look over some essential benefits of a beard that you can enjoy while keeping a beard.

1. 24/7 Sunnah

Having a beard is 24/7 sunnah, and there is a reward for Muslims who follow Sunnah. By keeping a beard, you look different from disbelievers, and your beard represents how much you love to follow Allah and his messenger’s teachings.

If we follow the teachings of our beloved Prophet, then surely, we will get the reward on the day of judgment.

2. Protect from Harmful Chemicals

Having a beard has benefits in Islam and gives you other benefits too. Beard protects you from harmful chemicals to your skin, such as U.V. radiations or pollution in the air.

This radiation and pollution cause cell damage and increase people’s wrinkling problem.

Beard protects you from all the harmful elements that can cause allergies, wrinkles, aging, and any other skin disease.

3. Protect your Chin

Beard covers the skin on your face and protects the sebaceous glands from the Vulgaris bacteria, which can cause severe acne on your face. Having a beard means you won’t have to deal with acne, spots, and pimples, and you will get clear skin.

Beard can also protect your chin from any injury and keep it safe. Beard can also keep your face warmer and clean all the time.

4. Prevent Respiratory Problem

Having a beard will prevent respiratory problems and problems of throat and gums. All these diseases can be prevented by keeping a beard because of thick beards which grow under the chin and neck. This can increase the temperature of the neck and help battle colds.

Islam explains all the valid reasons why it is mandatory to keep a beard, which science later approved. By keeping a beard, you can follow the Sunnah and get many other benefits for your skin and keep your skin fresh and healthy.

5. Natural Moisture

Your face has its built-in moisturizing glands, known as oil glands. This gland secretes a natural oil that keeps your skin hydrated and moisturized.

Having a thick beard prevents you from rubbing it off of your face. It can also protect the face from the exposure caused by wind and dust particles.

Keeping beard in the light of Hadith

In religious terms, the beard is the hair that grows from ears to cheeks and from cheekbones down to the chin. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) and his companions had beards and he (S.A.W.) gave lessons to all the Muslims through his teachings about the importance of the beard in Islam. The significance of the beard is stated in the Hadith in which the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) said:

“Trim your sibāl (the hair that forms a part of your mustache at the sides of the mouth) and grow your beards [long] and differ from the people of Book.”

In this Hadith, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) teaches how to have a beard. It also talks about shortening the hairs of the mustache.

Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) also said,

“He who starts a good Sunnah will be rewarded for it and in addition to receiving rewards equal into it. At the same time, he who starts a bad Sunnah will be burdened with it and in addition to receiving burdens equal to burdens of those who follow him into it” (Sahih Muslim).

This Hadith tells us the importance of our beloved Holy Prophet’s teachings (S.A.W.) and tells us the importance of starting a good Sunnah, such as the habit of growing beard in Islam.

What Quran Says About Beard

Allah has ordered Muslims to grow their beards as a way to distinguish themselves from non-Muslims, and as a sign of their commitment to Islam. The Holy Quran mentions that

“Whosoever does not grow his facial hair, he is not among the faithful” (Surah Al-Nur verse 30).

It is noteworthy that obeying Messenger in that is equivalent obeying Allah. The glorious Quran says,

“He who obeys Messenger had indeed obeyed Allah.”

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to have large beard, we as Muslims should imitate him in his practices. Quran says that, “In the messenger of Allah is good example for you to follow.”

Rules of Keeping Beard In Islam

Islam is a religion with an established set of guidelines for men to follow when it comes to facial hair. The beard is one of the most common symbols of a Muslim man.

There are many rules and regulations in Islam that pertain to beards. These include how long a beard should be,

The guideline for the length of the beard in Islam varies from school to school, but typically it should not extend past the chin.

There are two schools of thought on how to grow it – one says that it should be left natural and not trimmed or shaved at all, while the other says that it should be trimmed regularly to keep it neat and tidy. But both are agreed on it to grow.

Four Imams and every Muslim scholar believe that it is Haraam to shave one’s beard (prohibited). This proves that a beard must be at least the length of a fist. (Hidaaya, Kitaabus Saum).

So, just as it is Haraam to shave the beard, it is similarly Haraam to trim it to less than a fist-length.

This same subject is mentioned in Fathul Qadeer, Page 77, Vol. 2 and Bahrur Raa’iq, Page 302, Vol. 2 Sheikh Abdul Haqq Muhaddith Dehlwi (Rahmatullahi Alaih) states in Ash’atul Lam’aat:

“It is Haraam to shave the beard. It is Waajib to let it lengthen to more than a fist-length (hence to cut it less than this is also Haraam).”

It is mentioned in Imdaadul Fataawa:

“It is Waajib to keep a beard and it is Haraam to trim to less than a fist- full.

Conclusion

Keeping a beard is mandatory in Islam? Yes, the teachings and Hadith of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) told us how important it is for a Muslim man to keep a beard.
