What is Dua?
Dua is an Arabic word that means prayer or supplications. Dua is calling out to Allah and having a conversation with him. It is the way to connect with Allah and pray to him for everything. اللَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلاَ يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلاَّ بِمَا شَاءَ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاو َاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَلاَ يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
“Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Highest, the Greatest.” (Baqarah 2:225)
Dua for Good Health
You can also make dua for your good health while you are asleep. We are asking Allah to protect us from evil and keep our souls in good health with this dua. You can recite this dua daily before you sleep. Learn this dua by heart and make it a habit to say it before sleeping.
اللَّهمَّ إِنَّكَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا، إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا. اللَّهمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ العَافِيَةَ
English translation of dua is:
“O Allah, surely you have created my soul, and You shall take its life, to You belongs its life and death. If You should keep my soul alive, then protect it, and if You should take its life, then forgive it. O Allah, I ask You to grant me good health” (Al-Muslim 4:2083).
Dua Affirming Allah is Powerful
This dua affirms that we belong to Allah and our life and death are in the Hand of Al-mighty. This is the easiest and shortest dua you can say before you go to sleep. Our destiny and future are controlled by Allah only.
اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْـمِكَ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
English translation of dua is:
“In Your name Of Allah, I live and die” (Al-Bukhari 11:113)
Dua Thanking Allah for his Blessings
This dua praise and thank Allah for his blessing on us. As Muslims, we should always be thankful to Allah in all conditions. So, saying this dua before sleep will remind us of his blessings and praise Allah for taking care of us.
اَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا، وَكَفَانَا، وَآوَانَا، فَكَمْ مِمَّنْ لا كَافِيَ لَه ُُ وَلا مُؤْوِي
English translation of dua is:
“All praise is for Allah, who fed us and gave us drink, Who is sufficient for us and has sheltered us, for how many have none to suffice them or shelter them” (Muslim 4:2083)
