5 Haram Things Mentioned in Quran

There are several haram things mentioned in Quran which Muslims should avoid. Quran is very strict on the concept of Halal and Haram. Holy Prophet (S.A.W) also mentioned the importance of avoiding haram things in the Quran.

Halal is a term used in the Quran for the things permitted and allowed for Muslims. Haram is its opposite that is used for forbidden, illegal, etc. In Islam, many things or acts are considered Halal, while many are considered haram. We as Muslims should try to follow Halal things and avoid things that are Haram in Islam.

Allah teaches us to pray, and by praying means, we have to follow the Quran and the teachings of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). In Quran, Allah mentioned the list of things that are haram.

O you who have believed, eat from the good things which We have provided for you and be grateful to Allah if it is [indeed] Him that you worship. He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring (it) nor transgressing (it’s limit), there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful” (2:172-173).

1.Drinking Alcohol

The thing which can cause intoxication is Haram in Islam. Alcohol can cause intoxication, which leads a person to act without thinking. The Quran mentioned that one of the greatest sins is drinking Alcohol.

“They question the strong drinks and games of chance. Say: In both is great sin and some utility for men, but the sin of them is greater than their usefulness” (2:219).

2. Riba (Interest)

Riba or interest is also mentioned as the haram thing in Quran. Interest is strictly prohibited in Islam because it makes rich people the richest and poor people the poorest. In Islam, there is the concept of Zakat, which helps Muslims do circulate the money among poor and needy people.

Holy Prophet mentioned this to Abdallah Ibn Hanzalah, “A Dirham of riba which a man receives knowingly is worse than committing adultery thirty-six times.”

3. Music

Music is one of the haram things that are mentioned in the Quran. Today everybody loves to listen to music. We ignore the voice of Azan while paying attention to music. Allah strictly prohibits music because it can affect the moral and ethical values of Muslims.

Anas (R.S) reported that Holy Prophet (S.A.W) once said there would certainly be people from my Ummah who will attempt to legalize fornication, the wearing of silk, the consuming of wine, and the use of musical instruments.

4. Suicide

This is the era in which young people are committing suicide more often. The reason behind committing suicide is that societies lack Islamic knowledge. Depression and anxiety are taking over our individuals. In Islam, Suicide is strictly prohibited.

Holy Prophet said, “He who commits suicide by throttling shall keep on throttling himself in hellfire, and he who commits suicide by stabbing himself shall keep on stabbing himself in hell fire” (Bukhari, Janez 84).

5. Men Wearing Silk and Gold

Wearing of Silk and Gold is strictly prohibited in Islam. In Holy Quran, it is mentioned: “(like they then for Allah) a creature who is brought up in adornments (wearing silk and gold) and who in dispute cannot make herself clear?” (43:18).

It is one of the haram things in the Quran, so we as Muslims should avoid such acts.

We all know the concept of Halal and Haram in Islam. There are many haram things mentioned in Quran which Muslims should avoid. There is the punishment if we do haram things or eat foods considered haram in Islam. So it is best to follow the Quran and Holy Prophet (S.A.W) to get the reward at the end.
